Our Services

GSC is a Colorado-based, Colorado-grown company dedicated to the smart management of often complex environmental issues. Our goal at every site is to offer turn-key, cost-effective, and practical solutions for our clients.  Because we self-perform most services, we are able to offer more efficient scheduling, lower costs, and a crew that is experienced in all project aspects. Much of our success in this regard has been due to the fact we have invested in specialized field equipment (listed below), much of which is not commonly owned and operated by environmental consultants, themselves.  This allows us flexibility in scheduling and decreases overall project costs by decreasing subcontractor costs.

GSC’s areas of expertise include the following:

  • 24/7 Emergency Response Services
  • Due diligence for property transactions, including Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
  • Environmental drilling services (auger and direct-push)
  • Environmental remediation
  • Underground and aboveground storage tank inspection and compliance testing
  • Tank cleaning and tank closure services
  • Vacuum truck services
  • Compliance audits
  • Environmental permitting & reporting
  • Waste Characterization, Hauling, and Disposal
  • Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plan preparation.

24/7 Emergency Response

GSC offers 24/7 emergency response services, ensuring availability during nights, weekends, and holidays. Recognizing that emergencies don’t always happen during business hours, we provide qualified personnel, well-maintained equipment, and administrative support at all times. Our emergency response equipment includes backhoes, skid steers, dump trailers, vacuum trucks, and spill containment materials.

With our main office in Colorado Springs and a satellite location in Durango, GSC can quickly mobilize to any site. Our trained on-call field personnel are equipped to handle various emergencies, such as surface petroleum releases, tanker rollovers, and more.

Environmental Site Assessments for Due Diligence – Phase I and Phase II

GSC has conducted hundreds of Phase I ESAs for private landowners, lending institutions, and various municipalities throughout the Rocky Mountain region at sites both simple and complex.  Our comprehensive Phase I ESAs are performed in general conformance with the scope and limitations of the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Designation E 1527-21, Standard Practice for Environmental Site Assessments:  Phase 1 Environmental Site Assessment Process

In order to define the nature and extent of Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) identified at properties through the Phase I ESA process, GSC has also conducted hundreds of Phase II ESAs to more clearly evaluate the quantitative liability associated with a property.  We are well-experienced with the methods and protocols associated with surface soil and water sampling, subsurface soil and groundwater sampling, and soil vapor and ambient air sampling.

Lastly, GSC understands that short timelines are part of most property transactions, and we are capable of, and committed to, meeting client deadlines.

Environmental Drilling Services

GSC provides environmental drilling services for government, private, and industrial clients, with experience in diverse drilling conditions. Licensed in Colorado and New Mexico, GSC excels in delivering drilling services for environmental assessments, remediation, and monitoring projects, employing state of the art equipment to collect accurate soil, groundwater, and subsurface data.

With our Geoprobe® 7822DT rig equipped with auger and direct-push capabilities, we offer the following drilling services:

  • Dual Tube Continuous Soil Sampling;
  • Groundwater Monitoring Well Installation;
  • Air Sparge (AS) and Soil Vapor Extraction (SVE) Well Installation;
  • Injection Wells;
  • Piezometers;
  • Vapor Points; and,
  • Concrete Coring

Environmental Remediation

GSC has significant experience in emerging assessment technologies and practices, including membrane interface probe (MIP), ultraviolet optical screening tool (UVOST), and high-density soil and groundwater sampling. We also have significant experience with most commonly utilized remediation technologies and practices, including air sparge and soil vapor extraction (AS/SVE), chemical injection (carbon-based and in-situ chemical oxidation), pump and treat, enhanced fluid recovery (EFR), bioremediation, excavation, monitored natural attenuation, and risk-based modeling.

GSC owns and operates our own auger and direct-push drilling rig, vacuum trucks, utility daylighting equipment, chemical injection equipment, and pilot testing equipment. We also build our own remediation systems and complete most construction activities in-house. Because we self-perform most field services, we are able to offer more efficient scheduling, lower costs, and a crew that is experienced in all aspects of environmental assessment and remediation.

Underground & Aboveground Petroleum Storage Tank Inspection & Consulting

GSC has qualified personnel to audit petroleum storage tank facilities for compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.  GSC provides assistance with coordinating routine tank testing and preparing annual compliance reporting required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment – Division of Oil and Public Safety (CDLE-OPS). Additionally, GSC has certified A/B Operators that are capable of performing monthly and annual inspections to UST systems.

Tank Cleaning & Tank Closure Services

GSC is capable of providing services for the decommissioning of underground and aboveground storage tanks. GSC has personnel trained to operate heavy equipment and perform construction related duties associated with tank decommissioning jobs.

Vacuum Truck Services

GSC provides vacuum truck and related services, including hydro-excavating and sludge removal and disposal. GSC routinely cleans tanks of all sizes, from 500 gallons through 20,000 gallons in capacity.

Waste Characterization, Hauling and Disposal

GSC routinely performs waste characterization analyses as well as preparation of waste profiles and disposal manifests for disposal.  GSC is knowledgeable in the identification and characterization of investigation-derived waste and has an understanding of state and federal regulations and local and regional disposal facilities for various waste streams and alternative disposal methods.

GSC has the ability and equipment to haul and dispose of small quantities (<800 gallons) of non-hazardous liquid waste in our two (2) vacuum trucks, and we also have the ability to haul and dispose of small quantities of non-hazardous soil in drums or in bulk using our various utility or dump trailers.  We can also manage the complexities of larger dig and haul operations.

Compliance Audits

GSC can assist you with audits designed to meet EMS/ISO 14001 auditing requirements, corporate standards, and document non-compliance issues.  GSC has experience conducting environmental compliance audits at a variety of industrial facilities.

Environmental Permitting & Reporting

Understanding applicable regulations is essential for compliance. Environmental regulations often require permits for operations involving generating, transporting and disposing of waste and discharging chemicals to the environment (i.e. water, soil and air). GSC helps identify relevant regulations and obtain necessary permits. Maintaining compliance also involves timely reporting, and GSC supports clients by preparing and submitting required reports on schedule.

GSC has experience with the following permits and reports:

  • Annual Stormwater Discharge Permits and Reports;
  • Wastewater Discharge Permits and Reports;
  • SARA Title III – Tier II Emergency and Hazardous Chemical Inventory Reports;
  • Air Pollutant Emissions Notice (APEN);
  • Annual Toxic Air Contaminant (TAC) Reports
  • Wastewater discharge reports;
  • Local city reports; and
  • Internal company required reports.

Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC)

SPCC Plans are required for bulk storage facilities that have an aggregate aboveground fuel oil storage capacity greater than 1,320 gallons or a completely buried storage capacity greater than 42,000 gallons. GSC works with licensed Professional Engineers (PE) and staff that can prepare SPCC plans, design engineering controls, and other Best Management Practices.
